250 Years * 5 Questions * Norton Historians
As we approach the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in July 2026, Norton authors share their important insights on our nation’s past, present, and future. In conversation with Ben Tumin of Skipped History, Norton historians discuss the defining stories of US history over the past 250 years by answering five questions.
1. What idea, person, theme, event, or argument from 1776 is on your mind?
2. What do you believe is the biggest misperception people have about 1776?
3. What stands out to you as a defining piece, theme, or tension from US history over the last 250 years?
4. What is one person you wish we knew more about as we approach the semiquincentennial?
5. Why do you study what you study in history? How can studying history push us to be more responsible citizens?
