Features of the Sixth Edition

A more inclusive narrative

Expanded coverage of race and gender in rock history helps strengthen a more inclusive narrative in each chapter. New coverage includes women of the British Invasion, Latin American influences across the decades, and expanded coverage of Riot grrl and Tina Turner.

A new decade has come and gone

The closing of the 2010s provided the authors an opportunity to reflect on the decade and situate the music of the 2010s into a larger context. A new part opener and chapter on the 2010s helps students better understand the most recent decade of rock styles.

Exciting new Listineing Guides throughout the text

The Sixth Edition introduces many exciting new Listening Guides to the text, including songs by Billie Holiday, Blondie, the Go-Go's, No Doubt, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Vampire Weekend, and Ed Sheeran.
