Tutorials

Written by Laura Courtney Headley of Monterey Peninsula College, the tutorials give students hands-on practice recognizing how other writers make “the moves” and using the templates to begin writing themselves. Most of the tutorials support a single chapter from the book and guide students through the following steps: 

• READ: Students read and annotate a full essay that exemplifies the rhetorical moves taught in that chapter.

• RECOGNIZE THE MOVES: Students answer interactive questions about the rhetorical moves the writer employs, supported by helpful feedback and references to the textbook.

• WRITE: Students respond to a writing prompt, using templates from the book to practice making the rhetorical moves from the chapter in their own writing.
