Transforming the Canon: Ideas for Bringing a Global Perspective into English Courses

An online talk and Q&A with Martin Puchner

Wednesday, April 14, 3:00pm Eastern

Part of the Paths Forward for the Humanities Series

How can English departments respond to students’ demands for more inclusive, representative, and equitable curricula in literature courses? By teaching works in translation, exploring the effects of translation, and teaching English literature in the context of World literature, English instructors can convey key skills of the discipline while bringing a global perspective and diverse authors into English courses.  In this online event, Martin Puchner will discuss reimagining the English Department as a center of World literature – with practical steps that departments and faculty can take to effect this transformation. Following Martin’s thirty minute-long talk, attendees are encouraged to ask questions and share ideas in an open Q&A.

Certificates of Completion will be available for all attendees.
