“History Speaker Series: Clodia of Rome with Douglas Boin”

Hosted by Douglas Boin on January 21st, 2026

A perennial topic of modern debate, the decades that led to Julius Caesar’s rise and the fall of the Roman Republic are usually presented through the perspective of Roman men. In this talk, historian Douglas Boin turns that familiar story inside-out, showing how one woman’s quest for justice at a murder trial in April 56 B.C. can inspire new ways of thinking about why the Roman republic collapsed and why it still matters.
