“Civics Foundational Documents: Readings and Support”

Hosted by Stephen S. Meinhold and Brian Schoen
on April 15th, 2026

For students and instructors engaged in the study of civics, the focus is often on foundational documents like the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, and key texts like Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and Martin Luther King Jr.’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail. Join Stephen S. Meinhold (University of North Carolina, Wilmington) and Brian Schoen (Ohio State University), leading civic literacy experts who have deep experience teaching these documents to non-majors, for a 30-minute workshop with live Q&A. They will discuss how scaffolded reading and flexible assignment options, such as that provided by the new Civics Foundational Documents: Readings and Support project, provides students and instructors the support they need.
